PUNTARENAS - MONTEVERDE
WEATHER
The best season to visit Puntarenas is from December to February; the weather is benign and rainfalls scarce, which keep the roads cleared thus allowing going on excursions to the natural reserves, enjoying the beaches and visiting all the magnificent settings of the region.
The situation is quite different between May and November, when the pluvial precipitations are present with more intensity; which in some way makes more difficult travelling across the area. Nonetheless, every effort has its reward because the rain changes the panorama of nature, giving it a different connotation, perhaps more fierce, perhaps more evocative.
In general terms weather in Puntarenas is tropical, humid, very warm and with long dry periods; its annual average temperature is of 28º Celsius with a minimum of 23º Celsius and a maximum of 33º Celsius.
On the other hand, Monteverde is temperate and humid, with an average temperature of 17º Celsius. The region is dominated by the trade winds of the northeast which bring moisture to the Caribbean region. They are stronger between November and April and they weaken when the storms in the Pacific mark the beginning of the rainy season.
The inhabitants of Monteverde usually talk about three climatic seasons: the dry season, the rainy season and the misty season. The last one is present between November and February and it is characterised for the winds and clouds that cover the forest. There is a mild cold sensation during this period; therefore, it is advisable to have a coat at hand.
