COCOS ISLAND
HOW TO GET THERE
Cocos Island can be accessed by sea only. The journey takes 32 hours approximately and starts at the port of Puntarenas (rarely at Guanacaste or Golfito). Tourist cruisers, fishing boats, sailboats and private yachts, usually cover the route.
The tourist cruisers are the Undersea Hunter, which operates throughout the year, the Sea Hunter, working only from June to November, and the Okeanos Agresor, the oldest and largest one. A ship anchoring sporadically at the Island is the Pacific Explorer.
The cruisers cover a distance of 500 kilometres approximately from Puntarenas to the Bays of Wafer and Chatham, where they anchor. Most of their passengers are divers eager to submerge in the waters of Cocos Island.
The tourist businesses offer 10 days / 9 nights and 11 days / 10 nights programs that include land transportation from San José to Puntarenas, lodging in the ship's cabins, all the meals, and entrance tickets for the Park, amongst other services. Departures are scheduled on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Book your reservation with anticipation.
