CARTAGO
GASTRONOMY
The indigenous seasoning of the posol adorns the gastronomic menu of Cartago. Exquisite, succulent and traditional, this soup made of maize, pork, onions, sweet chilli and coriander, is part of the culinary adventure that travellers will taste at tempting tables in the province.
The gourmet tour includes the papa rellena (a dough of potato stuffed with meat or seafood), the ripe banana pie, the traditional picadillo and the chayote; besides some flavours that repeat themselves all over the country, such as the famous gallo pinto (rice and beans) and the casado (rice and beans with meat and banana).
Before leaving these true temples of taste, cheer your palate with the typical desserts of Cartago, amongst them the potato or cheese breads, the blackberry jelly or the atolito of milk.
